April 5 Community Engagement Meetings Report

Two community meetings were held April 5 to learn about and discuss Carlton Public Schools facilities. In the afternoon, a packed room of Carlton area senior citizens gathered at the Public House to share opinions regarding the future of Carlton Public Schools. In the evening, a broad cross-section of community members shared their opinions. Community members have participated in a total of six different meetings to discuss district facilities.
On April 5, district officials and consultants presented facility options that had been refined in previous meetings and by a Facility Advisory Committee made up of community members from the Carlton area. The options included doing nothing, fixing current facilities or building a new high school by South Terrace Elementary to replace the century old high school. These options provided floor plans to a new high school building and remodeling the South Terrace Elementary along with the cost and tax impact. Those in attendance were encouraged to share in writing their opinions with the school board.
Materials shared with attendees of the April 5 meetings are below, as are reports from the meetings. Please note that the plans and associated costs in these documents are preliminary, not final. The school board may choose to make changes to the scope of work. If the board decides to move ahead with a referendum vote on May 1, final documents will be presented at that time.
