Open Craft Night!

Always wondering when you will have time to work on your scrapbooking? Or when you might get to that next craft project you have been dreaming of accomplishing? We are offering you a way to do just that! We will provide the space, tables and chairs (no need to clean off the dining room table so you have space to work!)

BONUS: Sharing ideas and meeting new people!!!

Soma Yoga for Everybody and Every Body!  
Soma yoga is gentle yoga.  It re-establishes mind-muscle connections.  It is about listening to your body and making mindful slow gradual changes to increase your flexibility, strength and balance resulting in an increase in overall mobility.  You are encouraged to work at your own ability level.  Worried about hip, knee and shoulder issues?  Judy will work with you to adapt poses and movements.  Please bring a yoga sticky mat if you will be on the floor.  This Soma Yoga class can be either on the mat or on a chair and standing poses.

Have an amazing workout in disguise!  Enjoy a fun, high-energy dance party where you will burn calories and tone your body!!  The more you move the more you will lose!!  Hypnotic Latin combined with modern dance rhythms and easy-to-follow moves create a one-of-a-kind fitness program.  Routines feature interval training where fast and slow rhythms are combined to tone and sculpt your body.  Pre-registration is desired and you will be registered for the whole session.

Tae Kwon Do is a form of martial arts.  As students have fun learning kicks, punches, rolls and self defense they will acquire self control, respect, confidence and self esteem.  Tae Kwon Do can help develop fit bodies and minds that radiate into the rest of a student’s life.  The instructor is a 2nd degree black belt, starting her training 8 years ago with 5 years of being assistant instructor/ instructor.  Shin guards are required for the class and can be purchased from the instructor on the first night.  Testing will be an additional fee, which will vary in cost depending on the level at which the student is testing.  This class is for 6 year olds to adults (two different sessions being offered).  Questions about the class can be directed to the instructor (info below) and questions about registration can be directed to the Community Education office.  Registration is completed on a monthly basis.

PiYo
Carlton Community Education is excited to offer this awesome fitness class to the members of our community!  PiYo is a low impact workout that will burn calories and tone muscles.  It is a combination of pilates, yoga, core conditioning, balance, strength and fun.  Classes are designed for all fitness levels, ages and abilities!  This class is taught by a licensed PiYo instructor.  You will need to bring a yoga mat when you come to this class.  If you have questions about PiYo you are welcomed to contact the instructor.  Registration questions can be directed to the Community Ed office.  There will be TWO sessions offered this fall.  Session one will be the usual full force, one hour class.  Session two will be slightly less rigorous and will be a 45 minute class.  You can register for one or both nights-please specify on your registration form.

Put Your Retirement Plan to Work

Financial Advisor Kory Deadrick, with Edward Jones, is hosting a free seminar!  Class description: Encourages participating in an employer-sponsored plan, explains why it is important to start saving now, suggests two additional tax-advantages ways to save outside the employer plan and encourages rollover of money from previous employer plans.  There will be a chance to ask questions at the end of the session.  Please pre-register for this class!

Decoupage Vases

Come create a beautiful, creative vase in a few easy steps!  This class requires no creative talent at all, but once you have made this masterpiece, you will feel like an artsy genius!  This class will be held on site at the new, adorable eclectic shop right outside of Carlton.  All supplies are included in this price and you will leave that night with your creation.  These vases could be used to beautify your own home or make great gifts for others!  You can sign up for one class or both, please specify which night(s) you are registering for on your registration form.

AARP Refresher Course
This AARP training course is called "Smart Driver".  This class is offered for persons 55 and older who have already taken the 8-hour class and now need to take the refresher course in order to keep their auto insurance discount.  To maintain your discount, a refresher course has to be taken once every three years.  The class meets for one 4-hour session.  Participants MUST pre-register by mail!  Class size is limited.

Handmade, Elegant Cards

Join this class for a relaxing evening, creating beautiful masterpieces to share with others!  This class is for EVERYONE-no creative knack? Do not worry; the instructor will assist you in creating handmade cards that would make any greeting card company envious!  All supplies are included and you will go home with 8 cards (2 cards of 4 different designs for various occasions).

Do you have an extra bedroom and a warm heart for children?  The need for safe and caring homes in Minnesota is now greater than ever.  Kindred Family Focus will be hosting an informational meeting for those interested in finding out more on how to become a licensed foster care provider or adoptive parent.

Learn to Inkle Weave!

Learn to weave a strap for your guitar or other instrument, make a belt, suspenders, or a purse strap, using a portable Inkle Loom. There are a number of patterns and many colors of warp threads provided to choose from, so you are the designer. The teacher will help you learn to load your own warp, then give instruction on the weaving and finishing process over a period of about four+ hours, with a break for coffee and treats as needed (purchased right at the class location if desired). There is room for five weavers, aged 14 on up. Learners may bring a partner to help if they are unsure of themselves or need special assistance, for an additional $5. You will go home with one beautiful, long strap, and if it takes you longer than four hours, you may stay until you are done with the assistance of the instructor. You will work on one of five "Holden-style" looms provided by Ann Carlander, who lived and worked as weaving and arts coordinator in Holden Village retreat center for a year, and has taught this class to people of all ages.
