Open Craft Night!

Always wondering when you will have time to work on your scrapbooking? Or when you might get to that next craft project you have been dreaming of accomplishing? We are offering you a way to do just that! We will provide the space, tables and chairs (no need to clean off the dining room table so you have space to work!)

Soma Yoga for Everybody and Every Body!  
Soma yoga is gentle yoga.  It re-establishes mind-muscle connections.  It is about listening to your body and making mindful slow gradual changes to increase your flexibility, strength and balance resulting in an increase in overall mobility.  You are encouraged to work at your own ability level.  Worried about hip, knee and shoulder issues?  Judy will work with you to adapt poses and movements.  Please bring a yoga sticky mat if you will be on the floor.  This Soma Yoga class can be either on the mat or on a chair and standing poses.

Tae Kwon Do is a form of martial arts.  As students have fun learning kicks, punches, rolls and self defense they will acquire self control, respect, confidence and self esteem.  Tae Kwon Do can help develop fit bodies and minds that radiate into the rest of a student’s life.  The instructor is a 2nd degree black belt, starting her training 8 years ago with 5 years of being assistant instructor/ instructor.  Shin guards are required for the class and can be purchased from the instructor on the first night.  Testing will be an additional fee, which will vary in cost depending on the level at which the student is testing.  This class is for 6 year olds to adults (two different sessions being offered).  Questions about the class can be directed to the instructor (info below) and questions about registration can be directed to the Community Education office.  Registration is completed on a monthly basis.

Window Painting Fun!

Have you seen old, discarded windows turned into beautiful pieces of art with just a few strokes of a paint brush?  Have you thought it would be something you would love to try?  We have the class for you!  Come to The Lumberjack and the Gypsy for a class to do just that.  You will paint the glass of a window with any design of your choosing (you can bring your own design idea or some will be provided) and turn an old window into your next conversation piece of art displayed in your home!  If you can color, you can complete this class-it is for EVERYONE!  All materials (including windows) are provided for this class.  Most windows include 2-3 panes of glass.  Each class will be two sessions and there are four sessions to choose from, please specify which session you are signing up for on your registration form.  Numbers are limited so register right away!  Please note: not everyone will need the full 8 hours of class time; it can vary depending on your design and other factors.

AARP Refresher Course
This AARP training course is called "Smart Driver".  This class is offered for persons 55 and older who have already taken the 8-hour class and now need to take the refresher course in order to keep their auto insurance discount.  To maintain your discount, a refresher course has to be taken once every three years.  The class meets for one 4-hour session.  Participants MUST pre-register by mail!  Class size is limited. There are two class dates given, please specify the date you are registering for on your form.

Ever wanted to learn what it takes to make a pint of beer?  The great folks at Moose Lake Brewery will walk you through every step of the process!  And a beer brewing class would not be complete without some samples to try.  There will also be appetizers provided by the Magnolia Café.  Come for a relaxing, educational and tasty class!

Get into the Easter spirit and create your own décor for this holiday, keep it for yourself or use it as a meaningful Easter hostess gift!  During the session you will decoupage a jar, add some festive decorations and create your own beautiful wooden flower bouquet (3 flowers included in class fee, but additional flowers can be made for $1/per flower).  This class will be held on site at the adorable eclectic shop right outside of Carlton.  All supplies are included in this price and you will leave that night with your creation.  You can sign up for one class or both, please specify which night(s) you are registering for on your registration form.

Whether you would like to learn wheel throwing for the first time or wish to build upon your existing skills, this class is designed to fit your needs.  All skill levels are encouraged to join.  Basic wheel throwing techniques will be covered, as well as more advanced demos for those with prior experience.  Beginner demonstrations include cups, bowls, handles and plates.  Intermediate and advanced level demos: large bowls, vases, pitchers, lidded jars, joined forms and sets.  Come try your hand on the wheel!  Open to adults and limited spots available so register right away!!

Coffee Creations!

Do you live for that first cup of hot, delicious and caffeinated coffee when you arise in the morning and greet the day?  Then this class is for you and might even have you loving the amazing brews even more!  Come learn about the basics of coffees, espressos and other coffee drinks.  Become educated on grinds and blends of coffee and you also get hands on experience behind the counter making your own brew!  Each class participant will bring home coffee, a new knowledge of coffee and maybe even a greater love for it as well?

Put Your Retirement Plan to Work

Financial Advisor Kory Deadrick, with Edward Jones, is hosting a free seminar!  Class description: Encourages participating in an employer-sponsored plan, explains why it is important to start saving now, suggests two additional tax-advantages ways to save outside the employer plan and encourages rollover of money from previous employer plans.  There will be a chance to ask questions at the end of the session.  Please pre-register for this class!

Carlton and area students who are interested in obtaining a driver’s permit for the State of Minnesota can register by filling out the form below.  The completed form in an envelope may be returned to the Carlton High School Office or sent to Carlton Community Education, P.O. Box 310, Carlton, MN 55718.

Please be sure to fill out the form completely and include the fee when registering.  Blue Card is not included in the $105 fee for this class.

Students who have not paid the fee will not be able to start the class.

CLASS SIZE:  A minimum of 15 students are needed to conduct the class.

If there are not enough students registered, the class will be canceled.


-A “primary driving supervisor” (usually a parent) will be responsible for supervising a majority of the teen’s driving. 

-Requires all driver education programs to offer a 90 minute parental course (there is no extra charge for this class and will be held the first night of the course-March 4th 6-7:30pm). ****Parent meeting will be held in the High School Library****

-Primary driving supervisors must keep track of dates and driving times on a MN State Driving Log Sheet.  If the primary driving supervisor completes 90 minute parent course, 40 hours must be completed on the log and 15 of those must be night driving. 

-If primary driving supervisor chooses not to complete the 90 minute parent course, the driving log must then verify 50 hours of driving, with 15 at night.

Container Gardening 

This popular class, held at The Green House in Carlton, features valuable guidelines for planting mixed containers.  Plant selection, soil, container size, fertilizing and many other points are covered.  Participants may bring in their own container(s) (12” minimum diameter) or obtain them at the class and can plant as many as they want.  Soil and plants will be available at discounted prices.  Get your hands dirty while planting and then leave your container at the Green House to be cared for there until picked up no later than May 15.  **Due to space limitations, a maximum of four containers, per paid class participant, can be left with The Green House.  This “hands on” class will fill up fast, so reserve your spot early!!

Come learn a fun way to create an eye catching painting!  This is creation is made with acrylics and palette knives while learning techniques to achieve texture on the painting on a 16x20 canvas.  A great fit for those that love chippy, peely, shabby, rustic, primitive décor!  You choose your background color and go from there.  This class is sure to be a fun outing, possibly a day out with friends!

Have your cake and paint it too!  This class will allow you to create a 8x10 canvas master piece by using heavy body acrylics and palette knives.  You will learn to make texture using thick paint and various palette knives.  You can choose your own colors and your favorite kind of cake to paint (instructor will have various examples).  This could be a sweet Mother’s Day gift for that special lady in your life!

How do you brew your coffee?  Just a few years ago when someone would ask you this question, your response was predictable:  home coffee maker, espresso or maybe an Americano, right?  Today with all the new and progressive coffee brewing methods available you may have a tough time deciding on just one method as your go-to.  Cold drip?  Pour over? An AeroPress brew?  And the list goes on, but unless you have tried them all, how do you know what you’re missing?  This class will walk you through a few methods of brewing coffee and get you excited to brew coffee in creative new ways!
