Open Craft Night!

Always wondering when you will have time to work on your scrapbooking? Or when you might get to that next craft project you have been dreaming of accomplishing? We are offering you a way to do just that! We will provide the space, tables and chairs (no need to clean off the dining room table so you have space to work!)
BONUS: Sharing ideas and meeting new people!!!

Tae Kwon Do is a form of martial arts.  As students have fun learning kicks, punches, rolls and self defense they will acquire self control, respect, confidence and self esteem.  Tae Kwon Do can help develop fit bodies and minds that radiate into the rest of a student’s life.  The instructor is a 2nd degree black belt, starting her training 10 years ago with 5 years of being assistant instructor/ instructor.  Shin guards are required for the class and can be purchased from the instructor on the first night.  Testing will be an additional fee, which will vary in cost depending on the level at which the student is testing.  This class is for 6 year olds to adults (Two different classes being offered).  Questions about the class can be directed to the instructor (info below) and questions about registration can be directed to the Community Education office.  Class registration is a month at a time, new students welcomed each month! 
**NEW for 2019-2020-Class will now be two nights a week**
Class fees should be paid prior to the start of each new month and should be paid to Carlton Community Education.  Multiple months can be paid for ahead of time.

Put Your Retirement Plan to Work

Financial Advisor Kory Deadrick, with Edward Jones, is hosting a free seminar!  Class description: Encourages participating in an employer-sponsored plan, explains why it is important to start saving now, suggests two additional tax-advantages ways to save outside the employer plan and encourages rollover of money from previous employer plans.  There will be a chance to ask questions at the end of the session.  Please pre-register for this class!

Pumpkins and Sunflowers Painting
Come to this class and have a great time while creating a unique, beautiful fall decoration for your home or office!  This painting will be completed by using a primitive painting technique on a basswood live-edge board.  Different size board will be available for you to choose from.  Date: Thursday, September 19, 2019

Instant Pot 101

The Instant Pot is the hot new kitchen appliance!  Come check out their magic at this very informational and hands-on class!  Perfect for new owners, potential owners and especially for those owners who have one but haven’t braved this new adventure just yet!  During class six different recipes will be created and you will get to try all of them-so come hungry.  The different recipes will allow you to learn how to use different features of the Instant Pot (and other brands of programmable pressure cookers).  Some creations will be Pizza Pasta, Chicken Wings, Beef and Brown Rice Hotdish, plus a few more!  Care of your Instant Pot will also be discussed, to provide safety and longevity of this handy kitchen appliance!  Bring your Instant Pot to class (even if it’s still in the box), if you don’t have one yet-that is okay, you can still attend this class and learn if it is the right choice for you!  Also, please bring some containers to take leftovers home!

Beer and Wine Painting
Do you have a beer or wine lover in your family?  Do you have bar area that needs that perfect decoration?  This class is for you!!  In this class you will paint a 9x12 canvas panel with acrylic and chalk paints.  You will choose a beer painting or a wine painting and there will be various sayings that can be included on the painting.  Background colors will be your choice as well and don’t worry about your artistic talent level-patterns for outlines will be provided!

AARP Refresher Course

The AARP training course is called “Smart Driver”.  This class is offered for persons 55 and older who have already taken the 8-hour course and now need to take the refresher course in order to keep their auto insurance discount.  To maintain your discount, a refresher course has to be taken once every three years.  The class meets for one 4-hour session.  Participants MUST pre-register by mail!  Class size is limited.  There are two dates listed, please specify on your registration form which date you are choosing.

Dates/Times: Monday, October 7, 2019(5pm-9pm) or Monday, December 2, 2019(1pm-5pm)

Location: Inter-Faith Care Center, 811 3rd St., Carlton

Cost: $19.00 for AARP Members, $24.00 for non-AARP Members

(This class fee includes $4.00 to the Carlton Community Education program)

Youth Safety Community Education Classes

Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Program
The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program from the American Safety and Health Institute gives everything you need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The YouTube “vlogger” style presentation of the video brings a youthful and high-energy spirit to the program content, and the colorful magazine format of the student book makes learning fun. From getting started with your business, to working with parents and children, to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Instructor provides baby dolls, bottles, diaper supplies for skills participation. Students attend this class independently. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child.

Home Alone! 
Is your child ready for the independence of being home alone? Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether it’s for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class for children will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone” including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and first aid tips. Students attend this class independently. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child.

Be Prepared, Not Scared!
Young children who are taught basic emergency concepts like how to call 911 can turn into Heroes in emergency situations. One of the most important things for them to know are basic first aid steps to follow in different circumstances. Class topics include recognizing an emergency and knowing what to do, calling 911, fire safety, basic first aid, dog emergencies, severe weather, personal safety, and gun safety.  Students attend this class independently. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child.

“Love Hurts” Painting
Looking for a unique way to express your art ability (or lack of-no level of ability is needed to complete this one)?  You will create your own beautiful piece of artwork using chalk paint and acrylics on a basswood live-edge board, approximate size is 7x12.  You will have the freedom to choose both the colors for your background as well as the hearts!

Mr. Cardinal Painting
Do you love this beautiful, colorful bird or know someone who does?  Come to this class to create a special gift for yourself or for someone else!  This painting will be created on an 8x10 canvas panel with acrylics in many layers using a painting knife and then you will scrape back the paint to reveal the layers underneath all while perfecting your personal masterpiece!

Decorative Wall Pocket
Have you ever seen or heard of a wool wall pocket?  If you have or even if you have not, this class is sure to be a fun, hands on craft event!  In this class you will be crafting a wall pocket out of wood and wool fabric.  This will be a great addition to your home decorating for winter or Christmas.  How about a handmade Christmas gift for someone else?  You can make one or as many as you want!  Please note the greenery does not come with the class.  You are encouraged to bring your own and the instructor will help you arrange it in a very eye-catching way!
