The School Board is continuuing to explore two options (see September 5th post) on how to address our facility needs. The two options being explored are making facility repairs with available financing options, and talking with the Cloquet School District about possible consolidation.
The School Board will meet again on Monday, October 2nd at 6:30pm in the High School Library. This is a Committee of the Whole meeting, and so no official action will be taken. The School Board will be discussing in detail the facility repair 'needs" lists and cost estimates for both South Terrace and the High School, and discuss in more detail the financing options. Our project management and financing consultants will be there to explain details and answer Board questions.
The Cloquet School Board has expressed willingness and interest in discussing the possibility of consolidation. The initial discussions will be between the superintendents and 2-3 school board members from each district. These initial meetings will not be public, but any decisions or committments would require the entire Board(s) to approve. We will keep the community informed as these discussions progress. The consolidation process is defined in state statutues and includes numerous specific items that would need to be agreed upon.
